Dear Parents and Carers,
What a week it has been for our children at Georgeham CofE Primary – Volleyball tournaments, beach trips, school sleep over and garden parties to name a few things that have happened – I’ve never known so much activity within a week of learning!
Well done to the following children who are the class stars of the week:
Class 1 – Lola
Class 2 – Whole of Class 2 !
Class 3 – Reuban
Class 4 – Isla
It doesn’t stop there! Next Friday 28th June it is our annual Summer Fair – we cannot wait to see you at the event. A gentle reminder that it is a non-school uniform day for the children (come dressed is festival gear) and there will be a change to the collection routine at the end of the day (please see below):

The children will walk to the gazebo on the school field in their classes

Parents and carers will be invited into the school to stand by your child’s class

Our school choir will sing a song to signal the start of the fair

Parents/carers to collect your children and enjoy the activities at the fair!
Finally, we have been working with our children to talk about the uses and dangers of smart phones and the internet. Thank you to those who have informed the school when incidences occur so that we can best support the children. Furthermore, a group for Georgeham parents have created a Whatsapp group to agree how parents and carers are going to help our children through the next few years navigating/minimising smart phone technology. Festival theme !
This year’s summer fair has a FESTIVAL theme ! It’s a non uniform day so children are encouraged to dress accordingly with plenty of bright colours. Face decoration (eg sparkles and neon colours) will be available as soon as we kick off (pls don’t wear to school/during the school day).
At last count around £1400 worth of prizes are up for grabs including a Holiday at South Lobb cottages, Putsborough Sands Annual Parking Pass, Saunton Sands Twilight Spa passes, Rock Inn vouchers, a Dry Robe, Surfed Out goodies, Croyde yoga classes, vouchers for Elements Physio, Active Escape, Pure Skin & Beauty, Clip & Climb and much, much more still to be confirmed. Don’t miss out!
We need the raffle ticket stubs and money back to Lottie by Thursday 27th, as well as any tickets your child came home with which you don’t wish to buy. They all need to come back please 🙂
There are also extra tickets in the office if you want to buy more. There will also be a chance to buy extra tickets before the raffle on the day of the fair if you get in quick!
Please make sure you bring lots of CHANGE to the fair (all games will cost 50p aside from Guess the Sweets and Festival Face Decoration which will be free).
There will be a BBQ, bar and tea and cake stall so you might want to bring some extra!

- Attendance… We report the attendance of individual year groups as it’s a really good way to see if school attendance is at a good percentage… as high as possible of course! The DfE have a target of 96.5%
Attending school regularly is vital to help children achieve and to give them the best possible start in life. It’s also the legal requirement of parents once children are of school age and enrolled in mainstream education. Ofsted has a strong view about attendance of course. Too many absences can lead into difficult discussions about how we can support children to achieve and do well – we could even be downgraded for our current Good status as a result.
Absences will only be authorised if they meet exceptional circumstances. With only 190 statutory school days in the year, there are 175 days (weekends and school holidays) left to plan for family visits, non-urgent medical/dental appointments, holidays etc. School holidays are published well in advance and parents are expected to plan and take family holidays at this time so as not to disrupt their child’s education. We also try to arrange our Inset (training) days to provide time for travel… such as this term’s Friday October 20th.
Holidays… are almost always not recognised as meeting ‘exceptional circumstances’ and therefore an absence would be unauthorised. This could result in a penalty notice being issued by DCC.
Punctuality is important too, and the earlier we get our children into the right habits, the better. You may not realise that being just 5 minutes late every day equals 3 days of school lost a year. Please bring your child for 8.45am when they door is open and the classroom has a learning activity ready for them.
