Dear Parents and Carers,
What a term, what a year! It is hard to believe that I have nearly been at Georgeham for a whole year, and I have loved every moment of it. Thank you for embracing me during this time and allowing me the opportunity and pleasure to get to know your children. We are truly blessed to serve in a community as lovely as this, and I cannot wait to share our future plans and progress.
As usual, the children have been a credit to the school. We have had a great last week enjoying our Christmas lunch (big thank you to Jayne Carter!) and our Christmas parties. The children are definitely ready for a break and some festive, family fun.
This week, the children have enjoyed:
Class 1 – “We had a snowball fight in the school hall – we even threw some at Mr Fry!” (Sophie B)
Class 2 – “On Thursday, we had a Christmas party with games, food and Christmas activities.” (Freya-Grace)
Class 3 – “In DT, we have been learning to build trebuchets whilst using our sawing skills.” (Oakley)
Class 4 – (In science, we have been learning about refraction.” (William D-H)
Congratulations to the Class Stars of the Week:
Class 1 – Roxy Smith
Class 2 – Hubie Hill
Class 3 – Aiesha Ennis
Class 4 -Violet Rampe
Values Champion of the Term – This term we have been exploring what it means to be curious. A huge congratulations to Bryony Bargery in Class 2 for receiving the Curiosity award for always showing interest and intrigue!
Despite our amazing start in the first autumn term, our whole school attendance has dropped to 95.91%. However, we are still above the national average (94.6%). Well done to Class 4 for having the best attendance of the term (96.42%).
Finally, to everyone at Georgeham CofE Primary School, I would like to wish those that celebrate Christmas a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. We are privileged to serve this community, and we look forward to seeing you all again on Tuesday 7th January.
Best wishes,

Mr Kevin Fry

Music lessons with Sarah Cox

What an amazing term we have had with our guitar and singing lessons. The children have grown so much in their confidence, and this was demonstrated in our Christmas Assembly. I couldn’t be more proud of them!
If you have children interested in lessons with me, please get in touch as soon as possible on the following email as there are only a few spaces left. sarahcoxtutoring@gmail.com. Merry Christmas all! Sarah Cox

  • Attendance We report the attendance of individual year groups as it’s a really good way to see if school attendance is at a good percentage…  as high as possible of course! The DfE have a target of 96.5%
Attending school regularly is vital to help children achieve and to give them the best possible start in life. It’s also the legal requirement of parents once children are of school age and enrolled in mainstream education. Ofsted has a strong view about attendance of course. Too many absences can lead into difficult discussions about how we can support children to achieve and do well – we could even be downgraded for our current Good status as a result.
Absences will only be authorised if they meet exceptional circumstances. With only 190 statutory school days in the year, there are 175 days (weekends and school holidays) left to plan for family visits, non-urgent medical/dental appointments, holidays etc. School holidays are published well in advance and parents are expected to plan and take family holidays at this time so as not to disrupt their child’s education.
Holidays… are almost always not recognised as meeting ‘exceptional circumstances’ and therefore an absence would be unauthorised. This could result in a penalty notice being issued by DCC.
Punctuality is important too, and the earlier we get our children into the right habits, the better. You may not realise that being just 5 minutes late every day equals 3 days of school lost a year. Please bring your child for 8.45am when they door is open and the classroom has a learning activity ready for them.
