Dear Parents and Carers,
What a first week back it has been for us at Georgeham CofE Primary School. The children have immersed themselves in their routine and there has been lots of learning. On Thursday, we remembered those who fought and died in the D-Day landings to commemorate the 80th year anniversary of the battle. The children enjoyed a tea party outside where they enjoyed their sandwiches, sausage rolls, vegetarian pasties and fruit salad. Check out our twitter account to see some photos (@GeorgehamCEPS)
Well done to the following children who were class stars of the week:
Class 1 – Nevaeh
Class 2 – Tess
Class 3 – Diane
Class 4 – Niamh
During celebration assembly, we congratulated Class 4 who had the best attendance during the first summer term – a brilliant 99%! Furthermore, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 had the best attendance of the week – a perfect 100%.
Thank you to those parents were able to attend the RSHE information session. If you would like to talk about the curriculum, please do not hesitate to speak with your child’s class teacher. Alternatively, I have shared the presentation slides and videos on our school website:
Finally, we’d love to know your feedback about our school. Below is a link for all parents and carers to complete – the deadline is Friday 5th July
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend. Stay safe, look after one another and I can’t wait to see you all again on Monday.
Thank you,
Mr Kevin Fry

Pride of School Day

Was a huge success – a massive thank you to those who came along and got stuck in. Whilst two skip loads were taken away we will probably need another one so watch this newsletter for details of operation skip stage 2….

FROGS notice re Summer fair

is approaching fast (Friday 28th June 3.30 – 5.30pm) and we need helpers to make it possible. So far, we haven’t had many offers 🙁  and sadly if a stall can’t be manned it can’t happen.

Please step forward to help if you can, why not rope in a friend to keep you company. It’s not too much work and it’s a very entertaining couple of hours. Please help us raise money for the school and give the kids – and grown-ups – a fun afternoon to remember.

There’ll be a sign-up list outside school next week listing stalls with vacancies to be filled. Please add your name or contact your year group parent rep right now if there is a stall you particularly want to help on. (or any FROG – Erin, Holly K, Debbie, Nina, Ted, Cat, Amy, Harriet, Anna)

We need 2 helpers to run each of the following. If you have an idea for a stall you’d like to run, let us know…

Football Range/ Coconut Shy/ Festival Glitter & Tattoos/ Nerf Gun Shooting Alley/ Treasure Map/ Guess the Number of Sweets/ Splat the Rat!

You can also help in one of these brilliant ways…

Donate baking to the tea and cake stall (always the best seller!)

Donate any small stocking filler/ party bag type gifts for the Lucky Dip

Donate a raffle prize (usually we have some fantastic prizes)

Help pack up from 5pm – (many hands make light work 😉

TIA to all you parents and carers of our awesome small school. As a highpoint in the kids’ year it is always worth the effort. 🙂
FROGS X

  • Attendance We report the attendance of individual year groups as it’s a really good way to see if school attendance is at a good percentage…  as high as possible of course! The DfE have a target of 96.5%
Attending school regularly is vital to help children achieve and to give them the best possible start in life. It’s also the legal requirement of parents once children are of school age and enrolled in mainstream education. Ofsted has a strong view about attendance of course. Too many absences can lead into difficult discussions about how we can support children to achieve and do well – we could even be downgraded for our current Good status as a result.
Absences will only be authorised if they meet exceptional circumstances. With only 190 statutory school days in the year, there are 175 days (weekends and school holidays) left to plan for family visits, non-urgent medical/dental appointments, holidays etc. School holidays are published well in advance and parents are expected to plan and take family holidays at this time so as not to disrupt their child’s education. We also try to arrange our Inset (training) days to provide time for travel… such as this term’s Friday October 20th.
Holidays… are almost always not recognised as meeting ‘exceptional circumstances’ and therefore an absence would be unauthorised. This could result in a penalty notice being issued by DCC.
Punctuality is important too, and the earlier we get our children into the right habits, the better. You may not realise that being just 5 minutes late every day equals 3 days of school lost a year. Please bring your child for 8.45am when they door is open and the classroom has a learning activity ready for them.
