Attendance so far…

School average 94.5% (still below 95% where it should be)

We do have have a stomach bug and Covid-19 doing the rounds, but it’s really important to be at school when you’re well enough to.

Class 1 had a brilliant day looking at celebrations, when Nancy and Jesse got married!  Perfectly timed for April Fools’ Day, but Miss Smale isn’t a vicar and it really was just for the children’s learning.  It was a lovely ceremony though, and the whole school loved it!  (Yes, Keri made a cake!)

This coming week will be Miss Summerville’s last Friday at school.  Miss Summerville has been here for 14 years now, has led our science learning, has attended probably 100% of our FROGS’ events and has been thoroughly involved in our wider school life.  She’ll be missed by us all, but I know she’ll be coming back to volunteer time here too… she just can’t stay away!  Thank you for everything Miss Summerville.

(There will be a collection in the office if you would like to help with a leaving gift.)

There will be a few changes when we return from the Easter break, one of them will be that Mrs (Jen) Smith will be joining the Georgeham team for a day a week.  Welcome to the team Mrs Smith!

There will also be some changes to Class 1 over the Easter break, with Miss Smale doing something to confuse the children – that of changing her name to Mrs Parker!  Good luck and Congratulations Miss Smale / Mrs Parker – have a lovely, smashing, brilliant Easter break!!

No – none of these above are April Fools’ Day stories.

FROGS’ Bingo night – I’ve spotted that this has been postponed for now due to the number of Covid cases in our village.  Thanks again to those who organised it, and those who purchased tickets already – we’ll hopefully have it back on soon!

Swimming on Monday.  This will be the children’s last session in the pool.

Bikeability is next week too – hopefully everyone’s brought their forms in.  Bikes need to be in school for Tuesday’s playground session.  This is for everyone in year 5 but will be in two groups, with them having separate days (Wednesday and Thursday) out on the Georgeham roads.

Class 4 – I hear that you’re having a Viking Day on Friday.  That will be fun to see!

There’s also an Easter Service and school assembly at St. George’s Church for our last day on Friday.  Please do come along if you want, from 2.45pm, but please wear a mask inside the church.
You could also time to arrive for 3.15 pick-up instead, and you could get first choice of cake too.

Mr Thomas won’t be there for the service (I’m leaving for my holiday to Cornwall at midday) and so the service will be led by our new vicar Ron Cross, who doesn’t know the children’s names, has probably forgotten what Star of The Week is, and has no idea of the songs we’re singing.   It’ll be a good initiation to school assemblies for him!

FROGS have also planned to have a Cake Sale outside the church ready for the 3.15pm collection of children.  Please bring some coins.

Covid-19.  The simple decision now about children who are ill, is whether they have a temperature or feel weel enough to be here.  If they have a temperature or feel ill, they should not come to school.  If we get more specific guidance than this, we will pass the information on.

Attendance at school is still really important, but we understand if you have genuine reasons for staying off school.

Some children have asked us to help them understand what’s happening with the war in Ukraine.  Class 4, were shown the CBBC Newsround webpage that describes what’s going on, and we also showed maps to understand where this is all taking place.

link – Newsround: Why has Russia invaded?
link – Place to be: How to talk to children about this?
link – BBC’s Wellbeing resources for parents
link – Five ways to manage your feelings.

Our main focus is of supporting the children, and reacting and helping them understand it if it comes up in conversation.

Our front doors are open between 8.45 and 8.55 with children doing learning activities as soon as they arrive. Sadly, the ones who arrive late at 9.00 am would have missed this, and the ones who are later can even miss the introduction to the next learning task.

Please aim to arrive for 8.45am

Please do look at the school menu before you leave home in the morning. Keri is unable to adjust the menu each day and it’s important that the children know what’s on offer and are happy to make choices in the morning.

Love your neighbour as yourself.
