Could you be our next Parent Governor or Clerk to Governors?

You may be aware that we are currently seeking to recruit two positions at the school:

A voluntary Parent Governor to join our governing board

A paid, part time Clerk to Governors to administer the work of the governors

Governors play an important role in the school and support the head teacher to ensure the school has a clear strategic direction and plan, the finances to achieve it and remains focused on ensuring positive outcomes for all the pupils who attend.

Over the last five years the governing board has supported the school to deliver a number of key projects including:  the re-setting of the School’s Vision and Values, the development of physical spaces around the school, the investment in significant improvements to the school’s playground and physical equipment and the decision to form a Co-operative Trust with a group of local schools.

Parent Governor Role

We are seeking a Parent to join the existing Parent Governors on the board.  At the end of last term we circulated information but to date no one has applied.  We are really keen to appoint someone this term.  No previous experience is needed!  All we ask is that you have an interest in learning more about the school, a willingness to ask questions and the time to attend governor meetings.  We are particularly keen to appoint a parent whose children are at the start of their school journey and will be part of the school community for some years to come.   Information packs and leaflets were sent out at the end of last term but if you’d like a reminder or think you could be involved please speak to Jo or email…

Clerk to Governors Role

We’d also like to ensure you are aware of an exciting opportunity to join the school team as Clerk to Governors. We are seeking a flexible, motivated and organised individual with experience of administration  to join us on a paid, part time basis.

The Clerk to Governors plays a vital role in organising meetings, minute taking and liaising with all the Governors in order to ensure the smooth running of the Governing Board. The Clerk reports to the Chair of Governors and works closely with the Head Teacher.

The position is a mixture of flexible working and hours aligned with governor meetings.  We have up to 20 meetings per year:  Full Governing Body meetings will typically take place during the evenings (6pm – 8pm) and Committee Meetings will normally take place after the school day (4pm – 6pm).  Work around the committee meetings is flexible and can be undertaken at home.

A full job description can be found here (-link-).  If you think you may be interested or know someone who is, please get in touch with Jo, on 01271 890440 or admin@georgeham-primary.devon.sch.uk
