It’s SATs week for year 6 next week.  I’m not sure if you’ve seen the poems and posters online that say about how SATs don’t measure your sense of humour, your drive for a specific sport or your artistic flair…. We say all of this to our children and tell them how we think they’re all marvellous!  Of course SATs don’t measure these things, it’s just a hoop we have to jump through, but that’s another reason why we downplay and cause as little pressure or anxiety as we possibly can about them.

Don’t get stressed… just do you best!

The school diary shows what test the year 6 children have each day – do click the link at the bottom of the page to find out more.  And apart from playing lots of Rounders next week, I believe the class are having a SATs party on Friday too!  Looking forward to it!

I wonder if you saw our most recent blog about the baby ducks in Class 1?  Thanks to Ernest and Hubie, the whole school loved to go see them and several of the teachers were quite smitten!  The class have also got caterpillars, so we’ll share the life process of these over the next few weeks too.

This coming Monday, the 9th … Class 3 parents have been invited to a meeting about their residential for the St George’s residential.  An email should have come out about this.

Safeguarding…

The schools within the Braunton Learning Cooperative Trust provided a really interesting parents session last term on internet safety.

Sadly, children may still do things without telling adults, and adults may also not be fully monitoring their child’s online activity.

This happened in the Braunton Learning Cooperative Trust recently where an older primary aged pupil shared an unsolicited image to another child.

Please do try to monitor your child’s online activity, build in opportunities to share and talk about their activity and, importantly, keep reminding them to share anything that they may be, in their words, ‘weird,’ or different or simply inappropriate and wrong.

School photographer is in school on Friday 20th May.  Best uniform for then please.

Wednesday 25th May there’s a Parish Picnic straight after school at the park.  All I know so far is that there will be lots of activities and things to do for our community’s children and families.  Do put this date in your diaries.

COVID-19The NHS website seems to have been amended recently and now shows that main symptoms have been expanded from the three that we’ve been familiar with over the past two years.  It now includes headaches and tiredness amongst several others.  Here are the two links for children and adults.

If your child is ill, then they shouldn’t come to school.
If they have recognised symptoms (as per the web link above) then it’s possible they have Covid and they should try to avoid contact with others.  A test would indicate whether they do or not, but these aren’t mandatory and only need to be taken if directed to do so.
If your child is well and doesn’t have a temperature, then they can return to school.  We would prefer 1 day clear of the illness just to make sure nothing is passed on to others.
After a positive Covid test, a child under the age of 18 should stay at home and try to avoid contact with others for 3 days following the positive result.  They could return to school as long as they feel well enough to and don’t have a temperature.
Don’t forget, for diarrhoea and vomiting, it’s 2 days clear.

Our front doors are open between 8.45 and 8.55 with children doing learning activities as soon as they arrive. Sadly, the ones who arrive late at 9.00 am would have missed this, and the ones who are later can even miss the introduction to the next learning task.
Please aim to arrive for 8.45am
Please do look at the school menu before you leave home in the morning. Keri is unable to adjust the menu each day and it’s important that the children know what’s on offer and are happy to make choices in the morning.

Encourage one another, and build each other up.
