Dear Parents and Carers,
What a week it has been for our school! As usual, the children have thrown themselves into their learning and have remained as curious as ever! I have had many children come to my office to share with me some of the learning they have been doing about Martin Luther King Jr, the Ancient Greeks and Sunflower Club (EYFS).
However, the stars of the show have been our Year 6 children who have completed their KS2 SATS examinations. It is fair to say that the challenge was real this year and they fully stepped up to the plate. It was incredible to watch the children give it their best and come through the process with pride and belief. A massive thank you to Becky McCormick, Kate Dando, Lucy Rinvolucri, Gill Gething, Ali Smith, Harriet Maguire and Judith Ash for supporting the children during their tests and keeping everyone calm. I know that the children are looking forward to their SATS party on Friday and the Class 4 residential next week.
Well done to all our class stars of the week:
Class 1  Bluebell Hall
Class 2 Mitzy Rose Guedez
Class 3 Woody King
Class 4  all of year 6 !
On Thursday 6th June at 3:30pm, I will be hosting a parent/carer session that will be discussing the Relationship and Sex Education curriculum. I will use the time to share the content and planning with you so that you are fully informed when our children start to learn about this aspect of the curriculum.
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and I look forward to seeing you all for the last week of term.
Kind regards,   KF

Several point of general good practise….

Payment is via Scopay by Thursday 23rd May please.   still a few permission slips to come back too….

a message from the FROGS …

(Friends of Georgeham School aka our Parents Association)

On the 28th of June it’s the School Summer Fair and Raffle, an event that is hotly anticipated by the children as well as being FROGS’ single most successful fundraising event of the year, helping enrich the school experience for all.

As ever, a successful fair needs helpers. If you could lend a hand on the day, could contribute a stall, a raffle prize or have links to a business which might be open to doing so, please get back to your year group parent rep or a FROG.

  • Please help us make this fair a great one and ensure it’s another bumper raffle!
  • Thank you in advance.
  • FROGS
Chair: Erin Matthews,  Finance: Ted Humble-Smith ,
Committee members:  Holly Kennedy, Debbie Sanders, Nina Griffiths, Anna Arnold, Amy Redfern, Kate Woodeson, Catriona Kennedy, Harriet Krarup.

Year Group reps

Ideally we would like each year group to have a parent rep. We have a few gaps – see below – let the office know if you are happy to take up the reigns.

One key role for a parent rep will be as ‘admin’ for a WhatsApp group for their year for the purpose of circulating communications /reminders to parents quicker than you might look at an email from school…..

Please try to only use the group for school specific communications. Its critical, for example, if we need to let you know that football is cancelled !!  or.  we have no kitchen and need to request you bring in a packed lunch….  or its a snow day (ha ha)
If there are too many ‘other’ posts the vital ones might get missed, and then a parent wont be infomed, some may just not bother to look anymore for all the fluff, or they may even leave the group which defeats its purpose. So thank you for keeping it tight.  (Why not set up another ‘ask a silly question’ group if that helps 😉

Preschool ?

Reception  ?

Year 1 Debbie Sanders

Year 2

Year 3 Sam Humble-Smith

year 4

year 5  Catriona Kennedy

year 6  Holly Kennedy

(whilst a lot of info is relevant to the whole class, rather than year group specific, a rep for each year group will make it easier for you to manage when they ‘shuffle up’ at the end of each year….   thank you kindly. )

Class 3 football

A huge thankyou to Matthew Woodeson and Julian Matthews who have been running C3 after school football club for quite some time.  Sadly they have decided its time to hang up their boots not just for the rest of this term but year after six or seven years of doing it  they have decided its time to step down.

As everyone shuffles up in September we wonder if there may be another few parents from Class 2 (or others still in C3?) who would step in for next year.   I am sure Julian or Matthew would happily chat to you in the playground if you’d like to ask them any questions.. (or Mr Fry or Ms McCormick)

(it doesn’t matter what team you support  ha ha 😉 )

Class 4 residential

We know you will all have a wonderful time ! Be as courageous as you were for your SATS and you can conquer anything.

Parents,  there should be no need to contact your child but in an emergency please call the school office and we will assist.

  • Attendance We report the attendance of individual year groups as it’s a really good way to see if school attendance is at a good percentage…  as high as possible of course! The DfE have a target of 96.5%
Attending school regularly is vital to help children achieve and to give them the best possible start in life. It’s also the legal requirement of parents once children are of school age and enrolled in mainstream education. Ofsted has a strong view about attendance of course. Too many absences can lead into difficult discussions about how we can support children to achieve and do well – we could even be downgraded for our current Good status as a result.
Absences will only be authorised if they meet exceptional circumstances. With only 190 statutory school days in the year, there are 175 days (weekends and school holidays) left to plan for family visits, non-urgent medical/dental appointments, holidays etc. School holidays are published well in advance and parents are expected to plan and take family holidays at this time so as not to disrupt their child’s education. We also try to arrange our Inset (training) days to provide time for travel… such as this term’s Friday October 20th.
Holidays… are almost always not recognised as meeting ‘exceptional circumstances’ and therefore an absence would be unauthorised. This could result in a penalty notice being issued by DCC.
Punctuality is important too, and the earlier we get our children into the right habits, the better. You may not realise that being just 5 minutes late every day equals 3 days of school lost a year. Please bring your child for 8.45am when they door is open and the classroom has a learning activity ready for them.
