Dear Parents and Carers,
Following a wonderful bank holiday weekend, the children have enjoyed the lovely weather whilst engaging with their lessons. We have been lucky to watch our Year 6s present their Spotlight presentation to school and I have been staggered with the range of presenting skills from the children. From book reviews to swimming and we even had a presentation about Lily the lamb!
Well done and congratulations to the class stars this week:
Class 4 Harry Legg
Class 3 Oscar Humble Smith
Class 2 Bryony Bargery
Class 1 Zenoby Hall
Next week is a big week for our Year 6s as they will be completing their KS2 SATS Assessments. We are so proud of our children and how well they have prepared for these assessments. Thank you to those who were able to able to the SATS information session on the 9th – below is a link to the website where you can find the presentation:
During the final week of term (wb 20th May), Class 4 will be going on their residential to the Spirit of Adventure, Dartmoor. There will be a parent/carer information session on Thursday 16th at 3:30pm to discuss the plan for the residential and answer any remaining questions.
Please remember that Friday 24th May is an INSET day.
I hope you all have a wonderful week – I hear that the weather is meant to be fantastic!
Kind regards, KF

Summer is finally here …
hope we don’t jinx it with this post 😉
When its hot and sunny it is important that a high factor sun cream is applied before the children come to school to protect them when they are outside at playtime and lunchtime.
Please apply before school as it gives it time to sink into the skin which makes it more effective when they get outside. Lotion bottles are not allowed to be kept in their school bags (safeguarding health and safety in school). Supervision can be given to younger children.
If you wish your child to apply their own sun cream, we need you to speak with your child’s class teacher and provide sun-cream, clearly named, where it will be stored safely in the classroom and they can ask for it. It cannot be shared.
a loose long sleeved white t shirt is acceptable if you wish
a sun hat (named) is advisable
a water bottle (named) is essential !
Pride of School Day
We would love some help on either Saturday 25th May 11.00-14.00 or Sunday 26th May 11.00-14.00.
Please sign up through the survey below for some activities so we can decide which day works best.
We will be clearing out all sorts and sprucing up various areas of the school. Children and Grandparents are welcome!
Class 2 Rosemoor Trip – 12th June
There are still a couple of permission slips to be returned. Payment is via Scopay by 24th May please. Thanking you.
SCOPAY
Class 4 parents – final call for full settlement of funds. We are giving names to the centre today.
Preschool fees – please settle Spring term fees ASAP. Summer term will be entered on the new system after half term.
Swimming and other trips – please log in to see if you have any outstanding trips on your account.
You can still pay in advance for dinners but please only estimate your credit until the end of this half term (23rd May) as anything left in your Scopay pot will be costly and awkward to reimburse and we cannot transfer to the new system so we would like to avoid any positive balance by 23rd May. Negatives can still be settled to end of May.
We are aiming to email you with the app and log on for the new system in the last week of this half term.
Much appreciated.

Attendance… We report the attendance of individual year groups as it’s a really good way to see if school attendance is at a good percentage… as high as possible of course! The DfE have a target of 96.5%
Attending school regularly is vital to help children achieve and to give them the best possible start in life. It’s also the legal requirement of parents once children are of school age and enrolled in mainstream education. Ofsted has a strong view about attendance of course. Too many absences can lead into difficult discussions about how we can support children to achieve and do well – we could even be downgraded for our current Good status as a result.
Absences will only be authorised if they meet exceptional circumstances. With only 190 statutory school days in the year, there are 175 days (weekends and school holidays) left to plan for family visits, non-urgent medical/dental appointments, holidays etc. School holidays are published well in advance and parents are expected to plan and take family holidays at this time so as not to disrupt their child’s education. We also try to arrange our Inset (training) days to provide time for travel… such as this term’s Friday October 20th.
Holidays… are almost always not recognised as meeting ‘exceptional circumstances’ and therefore an absence would be unauthorised. This could result in a penalty notice being issued by DCC.
Punctuality is important too, and the earlier we get our children into the right habits, the better. You may not realise that being just 5 minutes late every day equals 3 days of school lost a year. Please bring your child for 8.45am when they door is open and the classroom has a learning activity ready for them.
