Well done to the Year 6s who all had a wonderful time in London this week. If you missed our Facebook updates, the children kayaked, climbed and caved in an outdoor centre in Cheshunt, went on the London Eye, and visited the Science, History and Transport Museums and also took in a show and watched Matilda; the one with real people and not a film at the cinema that was asked whilst there. They all had a wonderful time and I’ve been so proud of them! They also did a wonderful job helping to work out the best routes through London and learnt lots about the Underground and train network – it’s certainly more than just a school trip!
And if some of the Year 6 weren’t tired enough, some of them also took part in an Aquathlon today – a race at Ilfracombe pool involving a swim and then a run up the steep Hillsborough Hill. We all did really well for a small school and I’m really proud of our children who carried on running between the start and finish lines, cheering everyone on!
This week we sadly said goodbye to Karen Ivall who’s been a TA at our school for the last 6 years. Karen has asked us to pass on her thanks to the parents for the beautiful “bring me sunshine” rose bush, and for all the lovely comments she received in person. We had a lovely tea party where we gave her various gifts and some wonderful cards made by the children. Not at all emotional…sniff.
Karen (and Martin), thank you, and good luck with the new venture!
We forgot to say a big well done to Leelan Taylor for becoming a TTRS Rock Star last week! He has worked hard to achieve this, as have Phoebe H, Henry, Jack, Niamh, Ned and Marek who have all graduated up a level. Last week, we looked at the Guiness World Record holder for times tables – wow! We were certainly encouraged, but we also learnt not to be too unhappy about missing our next level by a small amount.
The children should all know their logins for this website…
Also after half term.…. Sarah Cox is now offering singing lessons as well as guitar lessons and is hoping to start after the half term holiday. She only has 8 places available at the moment and is expecting a lot of interest, so it will have done on a first come first served basis with children coming in pairs. This will take place within the school day. Please could you email her with your child’s name, potential singing partner, what year group they are in and any questions you may have. Her email address is: sarahcoxtutoring@gmail.com.
Next Week:
We have several pupils from the Braunton Academy here on work experience.
All clubs are on as usual, and we end the week breaking up for half term.
Please have a look at calendar at bottom of the website for further dates for the diary: Click here
We’re a Nut free school, so that means that most kinds of tree nuts (such as almonds, cashews, hazelnuts, pine nuts) and also peanuts shouldn’t be brought in to school. Sadly, this also means that pesto sauce shouldn’t be brought into school as it contains pine nuts. Sorry if this causes any inconvenience, but I hope you can help us as best as you can to keep our children safe.

Attending school regularly is vital to help children achieve and to give them the best possible start in life. It’s also a legal requirement of parents once children are of school age and enrolled in mainstream education. Ofsted has a strong view about attendance of course and, therefore, too many absences can lead into difficult discussions about how we can support children to achieve and do well – we could even be downgraded for our current Good status as a result.
Absences will only be authorised if they meet exceptional circumstances. With only 190 statutory school days in the year, there are 175 days (weekends and school holidays) left to plan for family visits, non-urgent medical/dental appointments, holidays etc. School holidays are published well in advance and parents are expected to plan and take family holidays at this time so as not to disrupt their child’s education. We also try to arrange our Inset (training) days to provide time for travel… such as this term’s October 21st.
Holidays… are almost always not recognised as meeting ‘exceptional circumstances’ and therefore an absence would be unauthorised. This could result in a penalty notice being issued by DCC.
Punctuality is important too, and the earlier we get our children into the right habits, the better. You may not realise that being just 5 minutes late every day equals 3 days of school lost a year. Please bring your child for 8.45am when they door is open and the classroom has a learning activity ready for them.
