We introduced our new School Values to the children this week. We finally arrived with the wording of our ‘motto’ / ‘strapline’ and the set of six values after many discussions with children, staff, Governors and a consultation with parents last year too.
We wanted something that stated that we’re small enough for every child to feel nurtured and confident, but big enough in ambition so that there’s no limit to what each of us can achieve. Hence we arrived at a very nice and catchy…
Small School Huge Horizons
The Values that underpin this statement involved many interesting discussions, but the six that we finally settled on support our children to be amazing and to achieve what they set out for.
- We are Kind
‘Do to others as you would have them do to you.’ (Luke 6 v31) - We are Confident
‘I know the plans I have for you… plans to bring about the future you hope for.’ (Jeremiah 29 v11) - We are Curious
‘Live life in all its fullness.’ (John 10:10) - We are a Community
‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’ (Matthew 22 v.39) - We are Adventurous
‘Encourage one another, and build each other up.’ (1 Thessalonians 5 v1) - We are Ambitious
‘Forget what is behind us and reach straight for what is ahead. Run straight towards the goal.’ (Philippians 3 v12)
Here’s our assembly from yesterday…
(Yes I have shiny new shoes and yes, despite them feeling odd, tight and different on my feet for the first hour of the day, they really feel comfortable now and I’m happy in them) So even though our children are possibly experiencing different things in school for the first hour, day or week, they really will feel comfortable and happy once they walk a little in their new surroundings. 🙂
