Hope you can help…
Class 3 liked testing different materials wrapped around Blue Groove’s take-away cups last week. We measured the temperature of the water at different times and found that the cup with fur round it was better than felt, foam or tin foil.
We’ve planned an experiment to see if Mr Thomas’ drinking flask was any good.
Have you got a flask, food or drinking one, with a sealable lid (the drinking cup isn’t important but may be necessary for heat retention?!) that we could use for our experiment next week?
We’ll let you know the results on the school’s Blog.

Hello Class 3,
I’ve got a couple of flasks at home. The flasks are different sizes though, I wonder if that will make any difference to how good the flasks are at keeping things hot? I’ll bring them in on Friday so you have them ready for Monday.
Today we carried out an experiment to see if Mr Thomas’ flask was actually the best at keeping liquid hot.
We compared Mr Thomas’ flask with 2 flasks that Miss Summerville had-one was 0.2 litres and the other was 0.7 litres (the same as Mr T’s.)
We found out that after 30 minutes Miss Summerville’s smaller flask was the best at keeping the liquid hot. Daisy thought that this might be due to the fact there was “more air in the bigger flask that might cool the liquid down.”
More testing needed I think to find out if this was the reason.
